Diesel oil contamination of soil causes highly-specific selection of conditionally-rare hydrocarbonoclasts from the soil microbial community. These microorganisms can be further enriched on biochar particles which are used to amend the contaminated soil. Extraction of soil bacterial communities after diesel contamination, followed by enrichment culture in the presence of biochar in medium with diesel oil as the sole carbon source, allows the formation of colonised biochar particles which can be used for it situ bioaugmentation.
