Many diaspora members contribute through programs like short-term consultancies, remote mentoring, academic collaborations, and returnee initiatives. These efforts enable the transfer of specialized skills, innovative practices, and global standards to local institutions and industries, fostering capacity building and sustainable development. However, challenges such as bureaucratic hurdles, limited institutional support, and mismatches between diaspora expertise and local needs can hinder the full potential of these contributions. To maximize impact, Ethiopia requires more structured programs, better coordination between diaspora organizations and local institutions, and policy reforms that facilitate smoother exchanges.
