We used mesocosms to evaluate the effects of drought on Nothonotus moorei (Yellowcheek Darter) and Nothonotus juliae (Yoke Darter) survival, growth, and behavior. Survival was low and did not differ between treatments. Yoke Darters gained mass in control treatments, whereas Yellowcheek Darters did not differ between treatments. Habitat-use varied between treatment and species, with control fish using all habitats and drought fish using run and pool habitats. Yellowcheek Darters had lower tag mortality than Yoke Darters. This study provides information to help conserve these species and many other stream fishes.

我们借助中型生态系统(mesocosms),评估了干旱对黄颊镖鲈(Nothonotus moorei, Yellowcheek Darter)与轭镖鲈(Nothonotus juliae, Yoke Darter)的存活、生长及行为的影响。两类处理组的鱼类存活率均偏低,且组间无显著差异。轭镖鲈在对照组中体重有所增长,而黄颊镖鲈的体重在不同处理组间无显著变化。生境利用模式因处理组与物种而异:对照组鱼类会利用所有类型的生境,而干旱处理组鱼类仅使用稳流带(run)与深潭(pool)两类生境。黄颊镖鲈的标记死亡率低于轭镖鲈。本研究可为这两种鱼类以及众多其他溪流鱼类的保护工作提供科学依据。
