Children's People and Nature Survey for England, 2021-2024: Secure Access

<p>The <span>Children’s People and Nature Survey</span> (C-PaNS) provides information on how children and young people experience and think about the natural environment. Each year, the survey samples around 4,000 children and young people aged 8 -15 years across two survey waves, one in term time and one in holiday time.</p><p>Waves 5 and 6 of the C-PaNS ran between
the 16 and 23 August 2023 (during the school holidays) and 18 and 26
September 2023 (during term-time). Wave 7 and 8 ran between the 14 and 25 August 2024 (during the school holidays) and the 16 September and 2 October 2024 (during the term-time). These data are alongside data from earlier waves already published.<br></p><p>Different versions of the C-PaNS are available from the
UK Data Archive under Open Access (SN 9174) conditions, End User Licence
(SN 9175), and Secure Access (SN 9176).</p><p>The Secure Access version
includes the same data as the End User Licence version, but includes
more detailed variables including:</p><ul><li>age as a continuous variable</li><li>income (all categories)</li><li>number of people living in household as a continuous variable</li><li>ethnicity</li><li>disability</li><li>home geography variables, including local authority district and urban/rural area</li><li>open answers for thematic analysis in CS_Q14 and CS_Q15</li></ul><p>The Open Access version includes the same data as the End User Licence version, but does not include the following variables:<br></p><ul><li>age band</li><li>number of people living in household (Top coded to ‘6 and over’)</li><li>access to private garden</li><li>income (top coded to £50,000+)</li><li>gender</li><li>places withing walking distance from home </li></ul><p></p><p>Researchers
are advised to review the Open Access and/or the End User Licence
versions to determine if these are adequate prior to ordering the Secure
Access version.</p><p>Accredited
official statistics are called National Statistics in the Statistics and

England's statistical practice is regulated by the Office for
Statistics Regulation (OSR). OSR sets the standards of trustworthiness,
quality and value in the Code of Practice for Statistics that all
producers of official statistics should adhere to.</p><p> These
accredited official statistics were independently reviewed by the Office
for Statistics Regulation in January 2023. They comply with the
standards of trustworthiness, quality and value in the Code of Practice

the latest review by the Office for Statistics Regulation, Natural
England have continued to comply with the Code of Practice for
Statistics, and have made the following improvements:</p><ol><li>Published a development plan with timetables for future work, which will be updated annually</li><li>Ensured that users have opportunities to contribute to development planning through their biannual Research User Group</li><li>Enabled wider access to the data by publishing raw data sets through the UK Data Service</li><li>Provided users with guidance on how statistics from their products can be compared with those produced in the devolved nations</li><li>Published guidance on the differences between PaNS and MENE</li><li>Improved
estimates of the percentage of people visiting nature in the previous
14 days by reducing the amount of respondents answering ‘don’t know’.</li></ol><p>These data are available in Excel, SPSS, as well as Open Document Spreadsheet (ODS) formats.</p><p></p>
<p>For the second edition (January 2025), data for Wave 7 (during the school holidays in 2024) and Wave 8 (during the
term-time in 2024) were added to the study. </p>

儿童与自然调查（Children’s People and Nature Survey，以下简称C-PaNS）旨在收集儿童与青少年对自然环境的体验与认知相关信息。该调查每年通过两轮抽样完成，分别在学期内与假期开展，每轮抽样覆盖约4000名8至15岁的儿童与青少年。

C-PaNS的第5、6轮调查分别于2023年8月16日至23日（学校假期期间）以及2023年9月18日至26日（学期内）开展；第7、8轮调查则于2024年8月14日至25日（学校假期期间）以及2024年9月16日至10月2日（学期内）开展。本次发布的数据包含此前各轮已公开的调查结果。

C-PaNS的不同版本可通过英国数据档案馆（UK Data Archive）获取，分为开放获取（Open Access，编号SN 9174）、最终用户许可（End User Licence，编号SN 9175）与安全访问（Secure Access，编号SN 9176）三种类型。

安全访问版本与最终用户许可版本包含相同的核心数据，但额外提供更多详细变量，包括：
- 连续型年龄变量
- 全分类收入信息
- 连续型家庭居住人数变量
- 种族信息
- 残疾状况
- 家庭地理特征变量，包括地方政府辖区与城乡分类
- CS_Q14与CS_Q15中用于主题分析的开放式问题答案

开放获取版本与最终用户许可版本包含相同的核心数据，但未包含以下变量：
- 年龄组信息
- 家庭居住人数（已上限编码为"6人及以上"）
- 私人花园使用权
- 收入信息（已上限编码为"5万英镑及以上"）
- 性别信息
- 住宅步行可达范围内的场所信息

研究人员在申请安全访问版本前，建议先查阅开放获取与/或最终用户许可版本，以确认其是否满足研究需求。

自然英格兰（Natural England）的统计工作由英国统计监管办公室（Office for Statistics Regulation，简称OSR）监管。OSR制定了《统计实务守则》，确立了官方统计数据的可信度、质量与价值标准，所有官方统计数据生产者均需遵守该标准。

本次发布的经认证官方统计数据已于2023年1月由OSR完成独立评审，符合《统计实务守则》中关于可信度、质量与价值的标准，应标注为"经认证官方统计数据"。

用户可通过邮箱[e-mail]直接联系自然英格兰，反馈关于本数据集符合上述标准的相关意见；也可通过发送邮件至[e-mail]或访问OSR官网与OSR取得联系。

自OSR完成最新评审以来，自然英格兰持续遵守《统计实务守则》，并完成了以下改进：
1. 发布包含未来工作计划时间表的发展规划，并每年更新该规划
2. 为用户提供通过半年一度的研究用户组参与发展规划制定的渠道
3. 通过英国数据服务中心（UK Data Service）发布原始数据集，扩大数据获取范围
4. 为用户提供指南，说明如何将本机构产品的统计数据与英国分权管辖区发布的同类数据进行比对
5. 发布关于PaNS与MENE差异的相关指南
6. 降低"不知道"选项的受访者占比，优化对过去14天内到访自然环境人群占比的估算

本数据集可通过Excel、SPSS以及开放文档电子表格（Open Document Spreadsheet，简称ODS）格式获取。

2025年1月发布的第二版中，新增了2024年学校假期期间开展的第7轮调查数据，以及2024年学期内开展的第8轮调查数据。
