Worldwide, green mold, caused by Penicillium digitatum, is the most damaging postharvest disease of citrus fruits. Infection of the fruit with the fungus take place through surface injuries inflicted in the peel of the fruit during harvest and subsequent handling in the packhouse. Spores present in these injuries become active, colonize the injured tissue and produce disease manifested by macerated exocarp within 48 h following the onset of the infection. Control of this pathogen is has been done by fungicides applied by dipping or in the wax.
