Lucerna ME5034 Roman Lamp, Evora

Roman clay lamp (lucerna) dated between the 2nd century AD and the 3rd century AD, of unknown origin. Lamps fueled with olive oil and other vegetable oils were very common in the Roman world to provide artificial light. This lucerna would belong to the typology Bailey Q-viii, Dressel 27-28, Deneauve VIII. It is decorated with an erotic scene on a horse surrounded by bunches of grapes. The specimen presents 3 cm in height and 10,6 cm in long. It is currently preserved in the Frei Manuel do Cenáculo National Museum (Évora, Portugal). Catalog No. ME5034.

本数据集收录的文物为公元2世纪至3世纪的罗马陶制油灯（lucerna），出土地点不明。以橄榄油及其他植物油为燃料的油灯在古罗马世界极为普及，是当时人工照明的主流器具。该款lucerna属于Bailey Q-viii、Dressel 27-28、Deneauve VIII形制分类。灯身装饰有环绕葡萄串的骑马情色纹饰。标本通高3厘米，总长10.6厘米，现收藏于葡萄牙埃武拉的弗雷·曼努埃尔·德·塞纳库卢国家博物馆（Frei Manuel do Cenáculo National Museum），馆藏编号为ME5034。
