Dicathais orbita, a mollusc of the Muricidae family, is well known for the production of an expensive dye, Tyrian purple and its brominated precursors having anti-cancer properties. Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform was used for transcriptome sequencing of the hypobranchial gland, prostate gland, albumen gland, capsule gland, mantle and foot tissues. Approximately125 million high-quality reads were assembled using the trinity denovo assembly pipeline and after filtering 76,152 transcripts were used for the differential gene expression study.
