In our clinical experience, HRCT Scan Chest is the best diagnostic and prognostic tool in COVID-19 infection. However, this is expensive and associated with significant radiation exposure. We carried out this study to determine the role of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) at the time of admission as an alternative marker. We found a significant relationship between NLR and CT severity score. NLR at a cut off of 2.42 had sensitivity of 81.58% and specificity 77.54% for predicting clinically severe disease. NLR at a cut off of 4.26 had sensitivity of 94.74% and specificity 85.99% for predicting mortality. The results of this study prove that this easily available and cost effective marker can be used to utilize healthcare resources equitably during the pandemic.
