This dataset accompanies a study quantifying stand-level water use of European beech (Fagus sylvatica), Norway spruce (Picea abies), and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) in pure and mixed stands under contrasting climatic conditions. Using sap flux systems, we monitored tree and stand transpiration on deep sandy soil during one wet and one dry year to assess how species identity, mixing, and interannual variation in water availability affect total forest water consumption.
The dataset provides detailed sap flux, transpiration, and climatic data useful for modelling forest water fluxes and evaluating the hydrological consequences of species composition and drought. It contributes to understanding how species mixing can modulate stand-level water consumption and supports management strategies for climate-resilient forests in Central Europe.
