We show that sulfuric acid droplets are readily produced in wet plumes emitted from typical coal-fired stationary sources. The freshly formed sulfate originates from the condensation and absorption of SO<sub>2</sub> and SO<sub>3</sub> emitted from stacks when the discharged flue gas cools in ambient air. We discover that the fast-formed sulfate aerosols in the wet plumes from industrial stacks account for approximately 31.4% of the directly emitted sulfate aerosols in China. This data advance our understanding of industrial particulate emissions and their contribution to atmospheric sulfate.

本研究证实,典型燃煤固定源排放的湿烟羽中可快速生成硫酸液滴(sulfuric acid droplets)。新生成的硫酸盐源于烟囱排放的烟气在环境空气中冷却时,其中的二氧化硫(SO₂)与三氧化硫(SO₃)发生冷凝与吸附过程。我们发现,工业烟囱湿烟羽中快速生成的硫酸盐气溶胶(sulfate aerosols),约占我国直接排放硫酸盐气溶胶总量的31.4%。本研究数据有助于深化我们对工业颗粒物排放及其对大气硫酸盐贡献的认知。
