Extensive usage of fossilized carbon resources has proven problematic in recent years due to its footprint on nature. As such, biomethanation, the microbial production of methane from non-fossil sources, is one of the promising technologies which opens the way to a more suitable energy production. Underground gas storages (UGSs) may play a strategic role in this process. The UGSs provide a suitable environment for methanogenic archaea that are capable of converting anthropogenic carbon dioxide and renewable hydrogen into biomethane.
近年来,大规模使用化石碳资源已因对自然生态造成负面影响而被证实存在诸多问题。据此,以非化石原料经微生物途径生产甲烷的生物甲烷化(biomethanation)技术,便是极具前景的可持续能源生产路径之一。地下储气库(Underground Gas Storages,UGSs)在此进程中可发挥关键战略作用,其能够为产甲烷古菌提供适宜的生存环境,而这类古菌可将人为二氧化碳与可再生氢气转化为生物甲烷。
