Visual core description of IODP Hole 386-M0090D

Collection of visual core description (VCD) sheets (hand drawn originals and digital representations) and lithologic composite plots from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 386 (Japan Trench Paleoseismology). VCD was performed on unsampled archive halves of split cores, directly after linescan imaging, during the onshore phase of expedition 386, which took place between 2022-02-14 – 2022-03-15 onboard D/V Chikyu. The lithology of each core section is represented on the hand drawn VCDs by graphic patterns next to the X-ray CT image of the archive-half core section. Further, a wide variety of features that characterize the sediment are indicated in additional columns. The information from the hand-drawn VCD sheets was then transferred into the Drilling Information System database (s. also datasets "Description of lithologic section units of IODP Hole 386-M0090D"), from where it could be accessed semi-automated to produce digital lithologic columns and composite plots using Strater (Golden Software).For further methodological information see methods chapter in Strasser, M. et al., 2023 https://doi.org/10.14379/iodp.proc.386.102.2023

本数据集涵盖国际大洋发现计划（International Ocean Discovery Program, IODP）386航次（日本海沟古地震学研究）指定钻孔的岩心目视描述（visual core description, VCD）表格（含手绘原稿与数字化复制品）及岩性综合柱状图。岩心目视描述工作于航次陆上阶段开展，具体时间为2022年2月14日至2022年3月15日，在“地球号”（D/V Chikyu）钻探船上完成，操作对象为完成线扫描成像后的拆分岩心未采样归档半岩心。每份岩心段的岩性信息，通过归档半岩心段X射线CT（X-ray CT）图像旁配设的图形图案，在手绘VCD表格中予以呈现；除此之外，表征沉积物特征的各类沉积构造也在附加列中进行标注。后续，手绘VCD表格中的全部信息被录入钻井信息系统数据库（亦可参阅数据集“IODP 386-M0090D钻孔岩性段单元描述”），可通过该数据库半自动调取数据，利用Strater（Golden Software公司）软件生成数字化岩性柱状图与综合柱状图。如需了解更多方法学细节，请参阅Strasser M.等人2023年发表的相关研究章节，链接：https://doi.org/10.14379/iodp.proc.386.102.2023
