Annotating vocal activity segments of wild killer whales, humpback whales, sperm whales and fin whales from Norway

The labeling of individual vocal activity segments, termed annotation, is a crucial component of bioacoustics research. The aim of this manuscript is to provide the necessary information for bioacoustics researchers to browse, interpret and annotate acoustic recordings of four species of wild cetaceans from coastal waters of Norway. The animals in this dataset have been recorded in their natural habitat. Here, we offer instructions on how to distinguish vocalizations belonging to these four different cetacean species, and how to label the onset and offset as well as the frequency range of vocal signals. Through this resource, we offer future annotators of similar datasets a template designed to minimize variation among their annotations.对单个发声活动片段的标注（annotation）是生物声学研究的关键环节。本数据集配套说明文档旨在为生物声学研究者提供必要信息，助力其浏览、解读并标注采集自挪威近岸海域的四种野生鲸类（cetaceans）的声学录音数据。本数据集收录的鲸类均为在其自然栖息环境下录制所得。本文档提供了区分这四种鲸类发声的操作指南，同时说明了如何标注发声信号的起始点、终止点以及频率范围。通过本资源，我们为后续处理同类数据集的标注人员提供了标准化模板，旨在尽可能降低不同标注结果之间的差异。
