Proliferative kidney disease (PKD) in salmonid fish is caused by the myxozoan Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae. We have performed dual RNA sequencing of the RNA collected from PKD infected and uninfected brown trout (Salmo trutta) kidneys. A total of 14 fish kidneys (8 infected and 6 uninfected fish) from three wild populations were selected. The goals for this study are: quantify the gene expression differences between the infected and uninfected fish; quantify the gene expression differences between the moderately and severely infected fish and de novo assemble the host-free parasite transcriptome.
