Dataset for "The Price of Transformation: Article Processing Charge Inflation, Market Concentration, and the Collapse of Cost Transparency in Open Access Publishing

Dataset accompanying the study “The Price of Transformation: Article Processing Charge Inflation, Market Concentration, and the Collapse of Cost Transparency in Open Access Publishing” This deposit contains the two OpenAPC datasets used in the study: apc_de.csv and ta.csv. The apc_de.csv dataset contains 267,755 article-level records with information on article processing charges (APCs), institutions, publication years, publishers, journals, DOIs, hybrid status, and related bibliographic metadata. The ta.csv dataset contains 223,764 article-level records associated with transformative agreements and includes additional information on agreements, opt-out status, and agreement group identifiers. The datasets were retrieved from the OpenAPC repository on 16 August 2026. The original OpenAPC data are openly available under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Public Domain Dedication.
