Global finestructure estimates of internal wave energy levels and wave-induced mixing from Argo float profiles

Global estimates of internal wave energy levels E (m^2/s^2), turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) dissipation rates epsilon (W/kg), buoyancy frequency N^2 (1/s^2), and vertical diffusivity kappa (m^2/s), averaged in the three depth ranges 300-500 m, 500-1000 m and 1000-2000 m. The estimates are obtained by applying the finestructure method to vertical CTD profiles collected by Argo floats in the ocean's upper 2000 m. The methodology is the same as detailed in Pollmann et al., 2017 („Evaluating the global internal wave model IDEMIX using finestructure methods", J. Phys. Oc.), but compared to the original publication, this data set covers 6 years more of Argo input data (2006-2021). The estimates are binned into 1.5°x1.5° horizontal bins, defined such that E(i,j) is energy representative of the bin bounded by lon(i),lon(i+1),lat(j),lat(j+1).
