Ecuadorian Hospital Discharge Data for Veterinary Public Health and One Health Analysis, 2024

This dataset contains the processed database, statistical outputs, analytical code, data dictionary, ICD-10 classification framework, figures, and reproducibility materials developed for a nationwide veterinary public health and One Health analysis of hospital discharges in Ecuador during 2024. The study is based on 1,132,667 hospital discharge records from the Ecuadorian National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). The analytical framework identifies a conservative core group of zoonotic diseases and an expanded veterinary public health set based on ICD-10 diagnostic codes. Derived variables include zoonotic disease classification, pathogen group, epidemiological interfaces, age group, sex, urban–rural residence, hospital sector, in-hospital mortality, length of stay, prolonged hospitalization, inter-cantonal and interprovincial healthcare mobility, and other variables relevant to veterinary public health surveillance. The accompanying statistical materials include descriptive epidemiology, population-based hospitalization rates, empirical Bayes stabilization of provincial rates, spatial autocorrelation analyses, negative binomial regression of hospital length of stay, healthcare mobility analyses, and sensitivity analyses using alternative zoonotic disease definitions. The repository is intended to support transparency, reproducibility, secondary analysis, and reuse of the processed data and analytical workflow. The original administrative records were produced by INEC. No personally identifiable information is included in the deposited materials.
