The data was collected in the context of a multi-center prospective external validation study that primarily aimed to (1) prospectively and externally validate the diagnostic performance of a published electronic nose (eNose) model in COPD patients with clinical and/or radiological suspicion of lung cancer at thoracic oncology outpatient clinics, and (2) explore the diagnostic performance of the published and a new eNose model, specifically tailored to the target population, for lung cancer detection in all individuals with clinical and/or radiological suspicion of lung cancer at thoracic oncology outpatient clinics. The secondary aim of the study was to confirm the eNose's discriminatory power with mass spectrometry analysis. The data was collected from two cohorts of adults with clinical and/or radiological suspicion of lung cancer who were referred to the thoracic oncology outpatient clinics of the Radboudumc or the UMCG for further diagnostic evaluation. eNose measurements were performed for both cohorts, while mass spectrometry analysis was only performed for the second cohort. Baseline characteristics and eNose data of both cohorts are included in the files: "Baseline characteristics first cohort" and "Baseline characteristics second cohort". Mass spectrometry data are included in the "TD-GC-MS data second cohort" file.
