Lab 2, Week 3: Techniques and Data - Field Training with Plants

We collected data on the characteristics of living thistle bushes in a grassland along a randomly placed transect, that started at the edge of the grassland and moved toward the centre, located at York University's Keele Campus, The characteristics measured include: distance (the distance the thistle plant was from the start of the transect, in meters), height (how tall the living thistle plant was, measured from the ground to the tip of the plant, in meters), number of leaves (number of living leaves on the thistle plant), number of flowers (number of living thisle blossoms located on the thisle plant), and level of crowdedness (the degree to which the thistle plant was surrounded by other living plants (including grass). Level 0 = open, 1 = some plants nearby, 2 = quite a few plant nearby, and 3 = very crowded bunch of plants within 50 cm).

本数据集采集自约克大学基尔校区（York University's Keele Campus）的一片草原，研究人员沿一条随机布设、从草原边缘向草原中心延伸的样带（transect），采集了其中存活蓟类（thistle）灌丛的相关特征数据。本次测定的特征参数包括：距离（distance）：蓟类植株距样带起点的直线距离，单位为米；株高（height）：存活蓟类植株的高度，测量范围为地面至植株顶端，单位为米；叶片数（number of leaves）：蓟类植株上的存活叶片总数量；花数（number of flowers）：蓟类植株上的存活花朵总数量；拥挤度等级（level of crowdedness）：蓟类植株被其他活植物（包括草本植物）环绕的密集程度，分级标准如下：0级代表开阔无遮挡，1级代表周边存在少量植株，2级代表周边存在较多植株，3级代表50厘米范围内植株极为密集拥挤。
