In this study, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) were challenging to decipher genomic loci without a priori assumptions. Microalgal Tisochrysis lutea was selected as a case study due. Particular focus was placed on pigment and lipid metabolism. To implement the GWAS approach, a collection of algal lineages was established from poly-clonal strains available. This collection was then phenotyped and concurrently, the genome of each lineage was sequenced.
