The high incidence of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) in Western societies is inversely correlated with the low incidence of intestinal helminth parasite infections, due considering the ability of helminth parasites to induce tolerance in the host. This is in part by the induction of tolerogenic dendritic cells (tolDCs). This study evaluates the role of Heligmosomoides polygyrus bakeri excretory secretory products, more specifically, metabolites, and their capacity to induce tolDCs. This study could represent a future helminth-based therapy for inflammatory diseases.
