Photograph of Pte. Albert Ville

The photo is of my grandfather Albert Edward Ville (sitting front left) who was called up in July 1917 and became a rifleman in the Queen's Westminster Rifles (16th London). He was wounded on 23rd August 1918 at Elverdinge near Ypres whilst a signalman in the 22nd London. He suffered a number of wounds and after first aid was 'taken back to blighty' to recuperate in Cardiff. I have also submitted separately a photo that was taken after his return whilst he was recovering and a photo of my grandfather's brother, William Ville, who also served in the army during WWI and survived. My grandfather wrote a short account of his life and I've also submitted separately an extract from this that describes his experience of being in the army.

本照片的主角是我的祖父阿尔伯特·爱德华·维尔（Albert Edward Ville），他坐在前排左侧。他于1917年7月应征入伍，成为威斯敏斯特女王步枪队（Queen's Westminster Rifles，第16伦敦团）的步枪手。1918年8月23日，他在伊普尔（Ypres）附近的埃尔弗丁格（Elverdinge）负伤，当时隶属于第22伦敦团担任信号兵（signalman）。他多处负伤，接受急救后被遣返英国本土，在加的夫（Cardiff）休养康复。本人还单独提交了两张照片：一张为他返乡休养期间拍摄的留影，另一张为我祖父的兄弟威廉·维尔（William Ville）的照片——威廉·维尔同样在第一次世界大战（WWI）期间参军并最终幸存。祖父曾撰写过一份个人生平简述，本人亦单独提交了其中描述其军旅经历的节选内容。
