Data from an Archaeological Evaluation at Margaret Road, Colchester, Essex, March 2022

This collection comprises images, a site plan, and site records from an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust at land to the east of Albert Street and south of Margaret Road, Colchester, Essex in March 2022. Three-trial trenches were machine-excavated under the supervision of a Colchester Archaeological Trust (CAT) archaeologist. As per the brief and Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI), trenches T1 to T3 were all 12m long by 1.8m wide. The archaeological evaluation (three trial-trenches) was carried out in advance of the construction of nine new dwellings. Two shallow Roman ditches and a modern service were identified in the trenches. Both of the Roman ditches contained fragments of ceramic building material, with one ditch producing a single sherd of Late Iron Age pottery and the other a single sherd of Roman pottery.

本数据集包含2022年3月由埃塞克斯郡科尔切斯特的科尔切斯特考古信托（Colchester Archaeological Trust，CAT）在阿尔伯特街以东、玛格丽特路以南地块开展考古评估所获得的影像资料、场地平面图与场地记录。本次评估共布设三条试掘探沟，由科尔切斯特考古信托的考古学家监督实施机械开挖。根据项目任务书与《调查工作方案》（Written Scheme of Investigation，WSI）的要求，T1至T3号探沟的尺寸统一为长12米、宽1.8米。本次考古评估（含三条试掘探沟）是为九栋新建住宅的建设项目前置开展的考古勘探工作。探沟内共发现两处浅埋罗马时期沟渠与一处现代服务管线遗迹。两处罗马沟渠均出土建筑陶瓷残片，其中一条沟渠出土1件铁器时代晚期陶片，另一条则出土1件罗马时期陶片。
