Randomness is the basis of security, privacy, trust and fairness. Cryptographic methods become vulnerable if the underlying randomness is weak or could be biased by the users of the system. Numerous applications rely on “Publicly verifiable randomness” (PVR), where randomness is extracted from a publicly accessible process or object, the output of which can be verified by third parties. With this proposal we wish to determine which pulsars would be most suitable if we wish to produce PVR through observations of pulsars.

随机性是安全、隐私、信任与公平的根基。若底层随机性偏弱,或可被系统用户操控引入偏倚,加密方法便会变得脆弱易受攻击。诸多应用均依赖于“可公开验证随机性(Publicly Verifiable Randomness, PVR)”:其随机性取自公开可访问的流程或对象,且其输出可由第三方进行验证。本研究提案旨在明确:若通过脉冲星观测生成可公开验证随机性,哪些脉冲星最为适配。
