These 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing data were generated using fecal DNA from two groups of horses. Group 1 includes six healthy adult horses that were removed from pasture and changed to an all hay diet, and four of those horses also received oral administration of metformin twice daily for one week. These six horses were also subjected to an oral sugar test at the beginning and end of the one week. Group 2, serving as controls, includes 25 healthy horses remaining on pasture, and sampled at the beginning and end of one week.
