CryoSat-2 SARIn Height Change and Reference DEM for Antarctica

This dataset contains gridded ice-surface elevation height change time series and a reference digital elevation model (DEM) for Antarctica derived from CryoSat-2 SARIn mode altimetry. Each dataset is split into four quadrants about the South Pole corresponding to the polar stereographic Cartesian grid using A1-A4 suffixes: 1. CryoSat2_SARIn_delta_h_A*.nc includes height change relative to the reference DEM (delta_h), ice area, data count, model misfit, error-scaled model misfit, mask, and surface mass balance (SMB) anomaly (relative to 1980-2019 mean). Resolution: 1 km. Time period: 2010-07-02 to 2021-07-02. Projection: EPSG:3031 (Antarctic Polar Stereographic). 2. CryoSat2_SARIn_DEM_A*.nc includes DEM height (h), ice area, SMB anomaly (relative to 1980-2019 mean) and mean firn air content (FAC; 1980-2019 mean). The reference DEM (h) is corrected for SMB anomaly and FAC (i.e., they have been subtracted from h). Resolution: 500 m. Time period: 2016-01-01. Projection: EPSG:3031 (Antarctic Polar Stereographic). Users can compute time-step-to-time-step height change (dh) by differencing time steps and compute ice-surface elevations or the FAC-free ice-surface elevations for mass change calculations (consult the README in the associated GitHub repo; see Software). Note: Users should use the data counts and model misfits to understand how data coverage and the model may negatively affect the accuracy of height estimates and consider using filtering methods to remove poor data coverage or high model misfit grid cells. An earlier iteration of this data is described in Smith and others (2017; see Related Works).
