This picture of oyster (Crassostrea virginica) pseudofeces was taken with transmitted light using a 40X objective. The photo was taken on July 23, 2000 by Quay Dortch at LUMCON as a part of the experiment series published in Thessen et al. 2009 Crassostrea virginica grazing on toxic and non-toxic diatoms. Toxicon.doi:10.1016/j.toxicon.2009.10.011. The pseudofeces is from an oyster that was fed Pseudo-nitzschia delicatissima strain LaPn-4. The sample was collected approximately one hour of the feeding. The oyster was 40mm in length. It was obtained from an aquaculture facility, stored in an ambient flow-through seawater system at LUMCON before starvation and experimentation. The LaPn-4 strain was isolated in Louisiana waters in 1999 and is characterized in Thessen et al. 2005 Effect of salinity on Pseudo-nitzschia species (Bacillariophyceae) growth and distribution. J.
