Religion and Money: Economy of Salvation in the Middle Ages, 2017

The project map out and discuss the coin findings under the floors of Scandinavian churches. In aggregate, 80 000 coins have been found. These coins reflect individuals' use of coins in relation to God and church. For all intents and purposes, the coins were dropped during sacrifice. Sacrificing money was a universal religious practice throughout western Christianity. The distribution of coins within the churches illuminates religious practice over time, changes in practice and how churches in different places organised and administered the institution of sacrifice.

本项目系统梳理并探讨了斯堪的纳维亚（Scandinavian）教堂地板下方出土的钱币遗存。总计已出土钱币达8万枚。这些钱币反映了信众在宗教信仰与教堂活动中使用钱币的实际场景。就实际意义而言，所有钱币均为献祭仪式中被投入之物。捐钱献祭是整个西方基督教世界普遍存在的宗教习俗。教堂内部钱币的分布情况，能够揭示不同时期的宗教仪式演变、仪式实践的变迁，以及各地教堂如何组织与管理献祭仪式这一制度。
