Blast searches were carried out to identify the percentage of sequence similarity between mitochondrial and plastid encoded tRNA genes. The nucleotide sequence for most mitochondrial tRNAs [except for trnE(uuc) and trnI(cau)] are highly similar (70% to 100%) to those encoded by the plastids.
