科名：FAGACEAE（壳斗科）；属名：Castanea Mill. （栗属）；种名或亚种名：Castanea mollissima Bl. （板栗）；；坚果大，产量高，耐贮藏；球果重114g，长椭圆形；刺束黄绿色，较硬，疏密中等，长1.7cm，分枝角度较小；球苞皮厚0.45cm；平均每苞含坚果2.6个。坚果近圆形，平均重19g；紫褐色，光泽暗，果面茸毛较多；底座中等大小，接线平直；树体高大，树冠多呈圆头形。结果母枝长29.5cm，粗0.75cm，节间长1.3cm；果前梢长5cm，分枝角较大；皮孔扁圆形，较密，中等大小；新梢红褐色，着生茸毛较少；混合芽圆形，较大，芽尖紫褐色。叶椭圆形，长19.5cm，宽8cm；叶片较厚，绿色，叶背茸毛甚厚，向内反卷灰绿色；叶面皱褶不平，少光泽；叶片水平状着生或下垂而往往遮盖住球苞，因此得名；叶柄黄绿色，长2cm。

Large-sized nuts, high yield, and excellent storability. Cupules weigh 114 g on average, oblong-elliptic in shape. Spine clusters are yellowish-green, relatively stiff, moderately dense, 1.7 cm long, with small branching angles. The cupule wall is 0.45 cm thick. Each cupule contains an average of 2.6 nuts.
Nuts are suborbicular, with an average weight of 19 g, purplish-brown, dull in luster, and covered with abundant trichomes on the surface. The basal scar is medium-sized with a straight margin.
The tree is tall, with a mostly rounded crown. Fruiting mother shoots are 29.5 cm long, 0.75 cm in diameter, with internodes 1.3 cm long. Pre-fruiting shoots are 5 cm long, with large branching angles. Lenticels are oblate-orbicular, moderately dense and medium-sized. New shoots are reddish-brown, with sparse trichomes. Mixed buds are rounded and relatively large, with purplish-brown apices.
Leaves are elliptic, 19.5 cm long and 8 cm wide. The leaf blade is relatively thick, green in color, with dense trichomes on the abaxial surface which is reflexed inward and appears grayish-green. The adaxial surface is rugose and has little luster. Leaves are borne horizontally or pendulous, often covering the cupules, hence the descriptive name. Petioles are yellowish-green, 2 cm long.
