Role of the transcription factor Jun in the myeloid cell response to acute kidney injury and repair

This project studied animal models of acute kidney injury. The focus was on the role of a protein that regulates gene expression, called Jun, within a subset of white blood cells termed myeloid cells. By deleting Jun within myeloid cells, it was shown that Jun acts to limit inflammation and kidney damage in a model of interrupted kidney blood supply. This was contrary to the hypothesis of the study and provides the first demonstration that Jun expression in myeloid cells exerts a protective effect in acute kidney injury
