Older adults on the move

The world population is ageing. Led by diminishing birth rates, increased material prosperity, improved working and environmental conditions, better nutrition, and medical advances, this growing demographic change towards an ageing population poses challenges to national health and social security systems. For the individuals themselves, however, increasing life expectancy opens up opportunities to start a new phase in life after retirement. One practice of particular importance for ageing populations is transnational mobility. Older adults can, for example, travel the world, move to another country or spend part of the year in a place of their choice.
To provide a better understanding of such transnational mobilities in old age, a mixedmethods research project was conducted in the framework of the NCCR-on the move.
This project produced quantitative data through two Transnational-Ageing Surveys, and a qualitative study conducted in Switzerland and Spain. The mixed-methods project aimed to collect complementary data on transnational practices developed by
ageing populations with a connection to Switzerland.
This codebook summarizes data collected in the qualitative part of the mixedmethods research project. It presents information related to

the interview modes and contexts;

the socio-demographic characteristics of participants;

the postretirement mobilities observed in the field; and

cross-border financial transfers.

全球人口正步入老龄化阶段。在生育率下降、物质生活水平提升、工作与环境条件改善、营养状况优化以及医学进步的共同推动下，这场向老龄化社会演进的人口结构变迁，给各国卫生与社会保障体系带来了诸多挑战。而对于个体而言，预期寿命的延长则为退休后开启人生新阶段创造了机遇。其中，跨国流动（transnational mobility）对老龄化群体而言尤为关键。举例来说，老年群体可环游世界、移居他国，或在心仪之地度过一年中的部分时段。

为更深入地理解老年群体的此类跨国流动现象，研究团队在NCCR流动项目（NCCR-on the move）的框架下开展了一项混合方法研究项目。

该项目通过两项跨国老龄化调查（Transnational-Ageing Surveys）采集了定量数据，并在瑞士与西班牙开展了定性研究。这项混合方法研究旨在收集与瑞士存在关联的老龄化群体所形成的跨国实践的互补性数据。

本编码手册（codebook）对该混合方法研究项目定性部分所采集的数据进行了汇总，内容涵盖：
- 访谈方式与访谈场景；
- 受访者的社会人口学特征；
- 实地调研中观察到的退休后跨国流动情况；
- 跨境资金转移。
