The machinery includes messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein-producing structures called ribosomes. The cell depicted here is permissive, meaning a type or species of cell in which a cancer-causing virus not only triggers synthesis of a transforming protein--a protein that stimulates expression of genes controlling cell division, leading to cancerous growth--but in which the virus can replicate and from which new, complete and infectious virus particles are released (virions).
