Change and persistence of hunting & dietary practices among Kadazandusun-Murut (KDM) bearded pig hunters in Sabah, Malaysia

This dataset consists of 38 semi-structured interviews that we conducted with Kadazandusun-Murut (KDM) hunters in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The dataset is based on information shared during over 50 hours of time with the hunters. The data cover a variety of topics about the relationships between KDM hunters and bearded pigs, the favored game animal for this hunting group. We asked the hunters about their hunting and dietary practices, changes in hunting practices, and perceived changes in bearded pig behavior over time. These data were collected prior to the 2020/2021 outbreak in Sabah of African Swine Fever, which caused the collapse of a number of bearded pig populations throughout the state. 
, We interviewed Kadazandusun-Murut (KDM) bearded pig hunters in Sandakan District, Sabah, Malaysia. We carried out semi-structured interviews with them, asking them a combination of closed and open-ended questions about their hunting and dietary practices, changes in hunting practices, and perceived changes in bearded pig behavior over time.

In this dataset, we share the de-identified raw data, which include a combination of notes, direct quotations, and responses to closed-ended questions. Potentially identifying information, such as location names, have been removed. The data are recorded in both English and Malay, with translations from Malay to English included in many places.

本数据集包含我们在马来西亚婆罗洲沙巴地区对卡达山-杜顺-穆鲁族（Kadazandusun-Murut, KDM）猎人开展的38次半结构化访谈，数据来源于我们与受访猎人共处超50小时过程中收集到的共享信息。数据涵盖诸多主题，涉及KDM猎人与须猪（bearded pig）的互动关系——须猪是该狩猎群体偏爱的猎捕对象。我们向受访猎人询问了其狩猎与饮食习俗、狩猎习俗的变迁，以及他们感知到的须猪行为随时间产生的变化。这些数据采集于2020/2021年沙巴地区非洲猪瘟（African Swine Fever）暴发之前，此次疫情导致全州范围内多群须猪种群数量锐减。

我们还在马来西亚沙巴州山打根地区对KDM族须猪猎人开展了访谈，对他们开展了半结构化访谈，设置了封闭性与开放性结合的问题，内容涵盖其狩猎与饮食习俗、狩猎习俗的变迁，以及他们感知到的须猪行为随时间产生的变化。

本数据集共享去标识化后的原始数据，包含访谈记录、直接引语以及封闭性问题的答复等内容。所有可能涉及身份识别的信息（如地点名称）均已被移除。数据以英语与马来语两种语言记录，多数内容附带马来语到英语的译稿。
