This is the most comprehensive and publicly available Road Stream Crossing (RSX) dataset for Wales and England to date. This dataset adds additional points for Wales and England to a previously published subset of Welsh locations. Data for Scotland and other regions within this dataset remain incomplete.

The dataset RSX-EngWales-28Oct22.csv only contains the (x, y) coordinates and types (bridge, culvert, or ford) of road-stream crossing infrastructure. A supplementary dataset completed for a subset of Wales includes information on stream order and gradient, with detailed documentation available at: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.16627873.v5.

The infrastructure locations in RSX-Wales-England.csv were identified by intersecting the UK Ordnance Survey (OS) Open Rivers and Open Roads spatial datasets, which were used and adapted under the UK Open Government Licence.

A team of cartographers attributed a type (bridge, culvert, or ford) to each infrastructure location using custom scripts in Google Earth Engine, and cross-checked as necessary using the Ordnance Survey Roaming tool.

The RSX data for England has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal article, but an explanation of the infrastructure type attribution methodology for both countries is provided here: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jenvman.2022.115959.

The X and Y coordinates in the .csv files are referenced to the projected British National Grid.
