This study aimed to understand the effect hydraulic fracturing (HF) impacts have on aquatic microbial community. Water from 6 streams, three impacted by HF (HF+) and three not impacted (HF-) were used to construct microcosms. Two different experiments were run. The first set of microcosms were amended with the biocide glutaraldehyde. The second set of microcosms were amended with the biocide DBNPA. Difference in microbial responses and degradation rates between HF+ and HF- were explored.
