The goal of this study was to investigate the transcriptome of clinical S. pneumoniae isolates after growth in chemically defined medium, supplemented with four different carbon sources. We aimed to look for gene expression changes when comparing glucose grown bacteria to the other three nasopharynx carbon sources. This study provided more insights into the carbon source metabolism of S. pneumoniae, related to the corresponding transcriptome and will help to understand more the prerequisites necessary for S. pneumoniae to become a successful colonizer of the host nasopharynx.

本研究旨在探究肺炎链球菌(Streptococcus pneumoniae,S. pneumoniae)临床分离株在添加四种不同碳源(carbon sources)的化学限定培养基(chemically defined medium)中培养后的转录组(transcriptome)。本研究旨在对比以葡萄糖培养的菌体与其余三种鼻咽部碳源培养的菌体之间的基因表达(gene expression)差异。本研究深化了对肺炎链球菌碳源代谢(metabolism)及其对应转录组的认知,将有助于进一步阐明肺炎链球菌成功定植宿主鼻咽部所需的必要前提条件。
