BACKGROUND 'Quickened - A Video Book' is situated in the intersection between new media practice and research, creative nonfiction, and digital humanities, specifically in the context of emerging experimental forms of documentary practice. It 'rethinks' video and audio so that it is now packaged within an iBook as something book like, exploring the affordances and possibilities of electronic formats for video and documentary. The research question investigated in this specific work is to what extent a methodology of noticing can be employed to create observational, non-narrative, nonfiction works that, when designed for the iPad/iBook system, enable an intimate, personal and private (novel like) videographic experience, in contrast to the highly socialised norms of cinema going and television viewing. CONTRIBUTION The work remains one of the few experiments available that specifically considers the question or problem of the 'video book' as a possible form, and is an innovative contribution to creative nonfiction as it employes the commonly recognised model of the 'book' for nontraditional content (video and sound). The interdisciplinarity of the project is important because it offers an example and model for creative nonfiction, documentary, media studies, and experimental forms of academic humanities 'labour' for the digital humanities. It achieves this by relying upon ready to hand and easily accessible technologies, which in turn allows the project to raise questions about audiences and audiovisual content in an age of personal media devices. SIGNIFICANCE The creative work underwent peer review to be included within Axon (a peer reviewed journal of creative practice). It has been used as a example of innovative work in courses managed by several of the contributors, and has been discussed by peers at a national conference (Australian Screen Production and Education Research Association, Melbourne, July 2013).
