DRFT08RR Drift Cruise Expedition Leg 08 - Cruise Report. In Data from Scripps Research Expeditions 1953-2005

This cruise leg uses revelle as part of a multi-ship operation with melville (cook19mv) and polar star to perform the southern ocean iron enrichment experiment (sofex). two patches of iron enriched seawater will be formed in the southern ocean: one patch north of the polar front in low si waters and one patch south in waters with si > 60 um. revelle will survey each site, perform the iron additions, perform initial sampling and then map the spatial extent of the patches. melville will follow on to perform detailed biological analyses, while polar star follows up to assess carbon export from the patches.

本次科考航次区段将由雷维尔号（Revelle）参与，与梅尔维尔号（Melville，代号cook19mv）、极星号（Polar Star）共同开展多船协同作业，执行南大洋铁富集实验（Southern Ocean Iron Enrichment Experiment，SOFEX）。实验将在南大洋形成两处富铁海水斑块：一处位于极锋（Polar Front）以北的低硅海域，另一处位于极锋以南、硅浓度高于60 μmol/L的海域。雷维尔号将完成两处作业站点的勘测、铁素投放作业与初始采样，并绘制各斑块的空间分布范围。梅尔维尔号将后续开展精细化生物学分析，极星号则将跟进评估各斑块的碳输出通量。
