This series comprises Health Inspector reports in bound volumes, relating to the administration of health regulations under the Public Health Act, 1902, the Cattle Slaughtering and Diseased Animals and Meat Act 1902 and noxious weeds legislation.The reports document the inspection of premises of slaughtering yards, listing the proprietors. Under the Cattle Slaughtering and Diseased Animals and Meat Act 1902,twelve hours notice was required for the slaughter of cattle. Proprietors who contravened this requirement were issued with notices and fines. The Health Inspector was also responsible for the reporting of infectious diseases and for the inspection of premises for sanitary conditions. There is also information about the Noxious Weeds Act.The records also include building applications and baths inspections. From 22 July 1966 the Chief Health Inspector was known as the Health and Building Surveyor.Custody History These files were in the custody of Clarence Valley Council until 18 August 2005 when they were transferred to the University of New England and Regional Archives.
