This dataset is derived from short-term (4-year) and long-term (16-year) mowing experiments in the semi-arid temperate steppe of Inner Mongolia. It encompasses data on plant defense functional traits and ecosystem stability across three stubble height treatments: control, 10 cm, and 2 cm. Structural equation modeling was employed to dissect the mechanisms by which mowing regulates ecosystem stability. The dataset consists of two files in total, and is associated with the paper entitled "Ecosystem stability is determined by plant defense functional traits and population stability under mowing in a semi-arid temperate steppe".
