Ecology Lab 2 Simple Data Survey - Woodlot Dataset 4 Tree Sampling

Species Black Thorn was chosen because of simple identification through distinction of their bearing of small black berries. Criteria of an adult tree included the bearing of small black berries on multiple branches and taller than 5 metres. Tape measure was placed against adult Black Thorn trunk at breast height, and width of trunk was measured with tape measure. Black Thorn Canopy Coverage was determined by viewing the above canopy through a square formed by the index finger and thumb of both hands. Distance to nearest sapling tree was measured with measuring tape; criteria of sapling tree included not being over 3 metres tall. Tape measure was placed against trunk at breast height, and width of sapling tree was measured with tape measure.

本研究选取黑刺（Black Thorn）物种，原因在于其可通过结有小型黑色浆果这一特征实现简便识别。成年植株的判定标准为：在多根枝条上结有小型黑色浆果，且株高超过5米。将卷尺紧贴成年黑刺的胸高树干位置，测量其树干宽度。黑刺冠盖度（Black Thorn Canopy Coverage）通过双手食指与拇指围成的正方形框俯视冠层完成测定。使用卷尺测量至最近幼树的距离；幼树的判定标准为株高不超过3米。将卷尺紧贴幼树的胸高树干位置，测量其树干宽度。
