Aboveground Biomass Mapping of Boreal Forests using Open Source Satellite Data

The authors of this publication have calculated the biomass of the Taiga woods in Russia and the Acadia forests in Canada using Sentinel-2, SRTM DEM, and GEDI data. The Acadia Forest region, also called the Atlantic Maritime Ecotone, is located between latitudes 47°15'25" N and 46°10'19" N and longitudes 68°26'2" W and 66°48'29" W. In contrast, Sakhalin Island in Russia is home to the Taiga Forest site, which spans roughly 7,280 km2 between latitudes 49°45'46" N and 50°56'9" N and elevations 142°49'51" E and 143°36'46" E. Sakhalin Island, Russia's largest island, is almost covered with taiga ecoregion. Nine PDFs, titled Workflow step-1.pdf, Workflow step-2.pdf,..… to Workflow step-9.pdf, include the comprehensive process used to download, process, and estimate biomass for the two forests.
