The Sherman plot is located in tropical moist forest on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal, on a hilltop south of the Chagres River, which receives approximately 2700-3000 mm of annual rainfall. All trees >=10 mm diameter at breast height were tagged, measured, mapped and identified to species in 3 censuses: 1996, 1997-1998, and 1999.
