The MATH dataset was created by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, and contains 12,500 challenging problems sourced from high school mathematics competitions. Each problem is accompanied by a complete step-by-step solution, designed to help machine learning models learn to generate answer derivations and explanations. Additionally, the research team has contributed a large-scale auxiliary pre-training dataset that assists models in mastering foundational mathematical knowledge. Although the accuracy of models on the MATH dataset has improved, it remains relatively low, indicating that new algorithmic breakthroughs are needed to enhance mathematical problem-solving capabilities.
