Number of banks in the European Union 2012-2015, by size

This statistic illustrates an evolution of the total number of credit institutions in the European Union from December 2012 to December 2015, broken down by size. It can be seen that the number of small credit institutions in the EU decreased during this period, reaching a total of almost 2.7 thousand as of December 2015. The largest number of medium sized banks in the EU was found in December 2014, when a total of 574 banks were recorded.
