This study aimed at investigating the usefulness of field-collected fecal samples for the monitoring of wildlife gut microbiomes even if sampling occured hours or days after defecation. This is important because so far such samples have not been considered for studies on wildlife gut microbiomes although they are useful under certain circumstances.
