Parkes observations for project P140 semester 2010OCTS

We propose to continue regular high-precision timing observations of PSR J0437-4715 with contemporaneous timing observations of new millisecond pulsars (MSPs) discovered in both the High Time Resolution Universe Survey (P630) and searches of gamma ray sources detected by Fermi-LAT. Using the PSR J0437-4715 data, we will increase our sensitivity to long-term effects such as the structure of the ISM, instrumental stability, and orbital period variations. For the new MSPs, we will produce phase-connected timing solutions and evaluate their potential for inclusion in the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array (P456).

本研究提议持续开展脉冲星PSR J0437-4715的常规高精度计时观测，并同步对两类搜寻项目中发现的新型毫秒脉冲星（millisecond pulsars, MSPs）开展计时观测：其一为高时间分辨率宇宙巡天（High Time Resolution Universe Survey, P630），其二为针对费米大面积望远镜（Fermi-LAT）探测到的伽马射线源的搜寻工作。依托脉冲星PSR J0437-4715的观测数据，我们将提升对星际介质（Interstellar Medium, ISM）结构、仪器稳定性及轨道周期变化等长期效应的探测灵敏度。针对新发现的毫秒脉冲星，我们将获得相位关联计时解，并评估其纳入帕克斯脉冲星计时阵列（P456）的潜力。
