This dataset contains monthly-averaged Land Surface Temperature (LST) and its uncertainty estimates from the Japanese Advanced Meteorological Imager (JAMI) onboard the Multi-functional Transport Satellite series (MTSAT-1 and -2, also known as Himawari-6 and -7). The raw surface temperature is generated every 3 hours. In this L3C product, the monthly averages aggregated from each 3-hourly time step are distributed on a regular latitude-longitude grid with a resolution of 0.05° × 0.05°. The coverage is limited to land surfaces within the MTSAT disk that encompasses parts of Australia and Asia. The LST in this dataset is estimated from infrared measurements using the single-channel algorithm. The performance of single-channel algorithms is generally inferior to that of dual-channel algorithms, and users are recommended to consult the corresponding validation reports for more details regarding the expected quality of these LST estimates. This dataset was produced by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) as part of the European Space Agency's Land Surface Temperature Climate Change Initiative.
