Number of bank customers in South Africa 2021-2022, by key financial institution

As of December 2022, Standard Bank of South Africa, the largest financial institution in Africa in terms of assets, had 10 million clients in the country. Furthermore, Capitec bank had the largest number of customers in South Africa, reaching 19 million as of August 2022. However, the bank only held 2.7 percent of the share of the total deposits in 2021.
